There is a hidden deleted scene from Metal Gear Solid 2 on the United States NTSC DVD release from 2001 for the Playstation 2. The scene involves the Statue of Liberty. Playstation 3 First Thoughts

I was at a Target store in Denver today and was able to play the floor model Playstation 3. I was surprised that there was not a crowd around the display. I was the only one playing it. I really like the redesigned controller. The analog sticks feel very responsive and the changing of L2 and R2 to shoulder triggers feels quite nice. They also added a PS symbol like guide button to the controller. The guide button does not activate from a quick press, which is nice. I've hit the guide button quickly by accident on the Xbox 360 and it takes you to the dashboard. I've hit the guide button on the 360 when I didn't mean to and it kind of took me off guard and threw me off my game. On the PS3 you need to press and hold it for a couple seconds before it brings up your options. I don't think the tilt sensor was working or was disabled for this model.

I played Motorstorm and a demo on NBA 07. NBA 07 was kind of bland. However Motorstorm looked incredible. The steering was a bit difficult since the level I was racing on was a canyon and it was quite easy to drive off the edge. I was reading this game used the tilt sensor to steer and I was trying to turn the controller left and right to turn but it had no effect on the game. This was probably due to the face the controller was secured to the display. I was able to slightly turn it left and right but it might not have been enough to register on the sensor for it to make my car turn.

The system menus are also quite easy to navigate and uses the same layout as the PSP. You have your games menu, friends menu, internet menu and so on. So if you have a PSP you'll be able to navigate the menus with ease.

Overall I was impressed with the overall hardware and Motorstorm was quite fun. However there are no launch games that are must haves for me so I will wait until some more games come out before I decide to get one.

The Nintendo sales rep was also there and was setting up the Wii display but I didn't have time to wait around to try it. Hopefully there will be a display Wii at the local Target store pretty soon.

Lego Star Wars 2-The Original Trilogy

I'm currently renting Lego Star Wars 2-The Original Trilogy for the Xbox 360 and it is a total blast. The game is pure and simple and a heck of a lot of fun. The cutscenes are also hilarious. There is also a ton of replay value since you can go back and play each level over again with other characters. Also if you want to find all the hidden mini-kit pieces you need to play through each level again in the Free Play mode. Also in the new game you have the option to create your own characters by mixing and matching Lego parts. So far I've made the dark side version of Luke Skywalker from the Dark Empire comic books. Overall this version blows the original out of the water. If you liked the first one at least give this one a rental. I'm having a blast with it

Retro Pepsi Sign

So at the grocery store I work at they are in the middle of a huge remodel. The aisle that had all the soda on it got taken down and all the old signs were put in the basement. We were told that the signs were trash and if we wanted them we could take them. I took one of the Pepsi signs. The sign has the old Pepsi logo on it before they changed it in 1991. I wanted this because it is retro and this logo hasn't been used in for about 15 years. The sign is actually three parts. There is the front and then two side panels that swing out. The side panels are not pictured. Take a look.

Superman Returns

I just returned from seeing Superman Returns and loved it. There are so many moments in the film where you just want to jump up and cheer. I can't get the theme song out of my head, and I don't really want to. Everybody should go see this movie. I loved every minute of it.

I was super excited today as I checked the new arcade release section in the Xbox Live Arcade and saw Street Fighter 2 listed. I immediately went to the info page for the game and was quite disappointed to only see a few picture sets and a theme listed. This is one Xbox Live Arcade game I'm really looking forward to.

New Super Mario Bros

New meets old in this great addition to the DS library. New Super Mario Bros takes the classic Mario formula and adds to it in new and creative ways, all of them fun.

Graphics: Mario looks great on the DS. The environments are all very colorful and look great on the DS.

Sound: Your standard Mario sounds and music are included. A lot of the classic Mario tunes can be heard in the game in a remixed kind of way.

Gameplay: Pure and simple platforming at its best. You can't get better than this. The game plays like a standard Mario platformer but there are new and creative ways to play as well. You can become a super sized Mario and smash through bricks or you can become a mini Mario and get into very tight areas. Also the leaning platforms are interesting. You walk on them and they will tip in the direction with the most weight on that side. Also the tightropes are well done. The gameplay is simple and great. The game provides all the stuff that made the original Mario games so great and adds to that formula to create a new experience.

Overall: New Super Mario Bros is great. It provides all the great 2D platforming you could ever want and spices it up with some new elements. Mario is back to his roots and it does not get better than this.

This game takes place after Metal Gear Solid 3-Snake Eater and leads up to the original Metal Gear. Finally that huge gap in the Metal Gear timeline will be filled. Look for it this winter.

God of War 2...Holy @#%&

I just watched the God of War 2 trailer and it looks amazing. It looks mostly like gameplay footage and some of the new ways to kill your enemies are just insane. I really liked when Kratos jumped up onto a Cyclops and just yanked its eye right out. Also at the end of the trailer it shows Kratos riding on a huge bird and he jumps to another bird with an enemy on it. He kills the enemy and then just slashes the bird's wing off and chucks it behind him. Now that is intense. Best of all this is a PS2 title.

Halo 3 Announcement Trailer Released And Spoilers

The Halo 3 announcement trailer is up on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Overall the graphics look pretty good but this is just a video, no gameplay shown. Basically it just shows Earth being torn up and then you see Master Chief with the classic assault rifle and a ton of Covenant ships fly over him and they are opening something in the ground. Then some voice says "This is the way the world ends." And then in text it says "Finish The Fight." and the year under that is 2007. I am not too impressed at this point. but this is only an announcement trailer and not any gameplay.

Test Drive Unlimited Xbox 360 Demo

So I just finished downloading playing the 360 demo of Test Drive Unlimited and I am not too impressed right now. This is of course only a demo and I'm sure the final version will be much better. First off the graphics do not look that great to me. The cars are not that detailed, the interior dashboard view is very simple and unattractive and the environments don't look that great either. Next the gameplay is pretty poor as well. I don't like the way the cars control one bit. The game used a drive around until you find something to do interface that I don't particularly care for. Also the voice you listen to in the demo that tells you where to go gets old after immediately. It is really annoying to me. The last thing I thought was really lame was the police system. When you hit a car a badge icon at the top of the screen flashes. Fill all of them up and you get a ticket. However you just magically get the ticket. You don't have to run from police or even see a police car or officer give you the ticket. That whole mechanic is just lame to me. If I’m going to get a ticket at least put in a police chase. Hopefully the game will be better before it is released.

Dead Rising Trailer

I was browsing the Xbox Live Marketplace tonight and saw they had a trailer of the upcoming Capcom Xbox 360 game Dead Rising up for download. I downloaded the trailer and the game looks insane. This looks like it will be one hell of an action/beat-um-up game. You play as a photographer in a shopping mall when it gets overrun by zombies. You get to use a ton of weapons to beat the hell out of these zombies. Some of the weapons in the trailer were a sword, a plunger, an axe and even a cactus. The game is also super bloody. I am really looking forward to getting this game when it comes out later this year. If you have an Xbox 360 you should really check out the trailer for Dead Rising.

Tomb Raider Is Back

The Tomb Raider series has had its share of problems. The major one being that the last good game in the series(Tomb Raider 2) came out almost 10 years ago. Everything since has been mediocre at best. Finally Tomb Raider Legend has come out and the series is now finally back on its feet.

Graphics:

The graphics on the 360 version are crisp, clean and beautiful. The ruins you explore feel and look excellent. Also the character model of Lara is greatly improved and moves very fluidly unlike in the other games where she was very rigid.

Sound:

The sound overall is very well done with the exception of the voice acting. The voice acting for me felt very cheesy and lame. The story is not all that great either. The environmental sounds and ambient sounds are very well done though.

Gameplay:

The controls are quite responsive and the camera system and movement system work well and have little to no learning curve. The game controls in a similar fashion to the Prince of Persia games as far as movement and jumping across gaps does. Also a nice touch is finding treasures and actually exploring tombs again. The other games put you in locales that had little or nothing to do with exploring tombs. Legend feels and plays a lot more like the originals which is a good thing since it is the essence of exploring and raiding tombs.

Overall:

Overall Tomb Raider Legend is very good. The only downside in my opinion was the lame voice acting and dialogue. This game is definitely worth the rental.

The Good:

The series is back and you are actually exploring tombs again.

The Bad:

Voice acting is quite lame and the dialogue is poorly written.

The Ugly:

It took four terrible Tomb Raider games to get to this point. Hopefully the cycle will not continue and the future Tomb Raider games will all be on the level that Legend is.

Score: 8/10

Rumble Roses XX...Avoid This Pile of Crap!

The original Rumble Roses on the Playstation 2 was pretty poor, Rumble Roses XX follows in that tradition. The game is terrible in almost every way possible. Here is the breakdown:

Graphics: The only aspect of the game done well. And you would need to have good graphics to sell a game that is basically all graphics over gameplay. The character models are all well done and the animation is well done also.

Sound: Overall the sound is pretty lame. Each wrestler has a few lines of dialogue which are somewhat entertaining to hear but the rest of the audio sucks. You have your standard grunts and groans as your wrestler takes and dishes out moves. The music is also pretty bad. There is only one song I find I can listen to and that is "Yankee Rose" the title track of the game. And i only like that song because I liked the original by David Lee Roth.

Gameplay: This is where the game falls apart. The basics are pretty easy to learn and master. You punch, you grapple, you punch some more and grapple some more. That is about all the strategy this game offers. The AI is incredibly cheap as well. You can literally pound on your opponent for a good 10-15 minutes before they even get a hit in on your character. Also you can nail finisher after finisher after finisher on them and they generally won't get pinned or give up. However after that the AI kicks it into God Mode and starts blocking everything you throw at them and nailing move after move after move on you. Also it usually only takes one finisher from them to put you out. However it takes several of your own finishers to win, and that is if the AI does not start to basically cheat.

Overall:

This game is terrible in nearly every aspect. This is the only wrestling game on the 360 right now though. If you want some wrestling on your 360 rent this, do not under any circumstances buy this game. If you want a good wrestling game on the 360 wait until WWE Smackdown Vs. RAW 2007 comes out later this year.

Goldeneye Source

I've been playing the Alpha of Goldenye Source for the past couple days. It kicks major ass even as an Alpha release. There are a few playable maps, a handful of weapons and a functioning online multiplayer mode. For an Alpha the game offers quite a lot. Basically the game looks like if Goldeneye were to be released within the past year or two. The environments are very detailed and look great. My only complaint is some of the levels are too dark at this point. Pyramid and Caverns(Caves) are almost too dark while some levels like the Archives are a bit too bright. Hell it is still in Alpha, and if the game kicks this much ass in Alpha just imagine what the Beta and final releases will be like. If you own Half-Life 2 give Goldeneye Source a try. It is well worth the download.

I was finally able to get a hold of an Xbox 360 platinum system. I absolutely love it. So far I'm playing a lot of Perfect Dark Zero online, Burnout Revenge, and a few great Xbox Live Arcade games, Geometry Wars and Bejeweled 2. I really like how you can try the arcade games before you buy them. Also you can get full game demos for new and upcoming games in the Marketplace which I think is a great feature for people who don't want to have to wait for their Xbox magazine to come in and hope it has a demo they are interested in. I just picked up Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter today and I'm hooked.

Commandos Strike Force = A Total Piece of Crap

I just played the demo of Commandos Strike Force for the PS2 and it is a total piece of crap. First of all they take what was an awesome strategy game on the PC and turn it into a crappy first person shooter. Like we need any more World War 2 first person shooters. Secondly the graphics look like total crap. The visuals are all bad. The textures are blocky, blurry and look like crap. Thanks for changing what was an awesome franchise into a total piece of crap Eidos. Here is how the marketing meeting went when this game was being planned:

Eidos Executive #1 "Console gamers don't want a strategy game, what should we do?"

Eidos Executive #2 "Lets make it a lame ass first person shooter...console fans love those."

Again thanks for Eidos for ruining what was a great strategy game and turning it into just another World War 2 first person shooter.(And a really bad and ugly one at that.)

Okami Demo

One word...beautiful. I can't wait for the full release. The art is incredible. It is like a watercolor painting come to life. The music is also great. The little sprite thing reminds me too much of Navi though. :)

European Version of Black...The Demo Does Not Do This Game Justice

I've been playing the import Playstation 2 version of Black. The demo version does not do this game justice. The first level is basically the demo. The second mission is a lot longer, a lot harder and offers a lot more stuff to blow up. You start off in a jungle like environment and have to find the border crossing and cross it. There are several vehicles you can blow up, gas containers, exploding barrels and a ton of other stuff to destroy. The mission took me about 35 minutes to beat. The other levels are quite long as well. Also each level has a bunch of primary and secondary objectives. On the easy difficulty you only need to complete the primary objectives. On normal you need to complete the primary objectives as well as a few secondary ones. There are plenty of secondary objectives. This adds some replay value to the game since there is no multiplayer. Right now I'm on the third mission which starts off with you running through a cemetery avoiding sniper fire. Despite there being no multiplayer this game is pretty sweet. It might not be worth a purchase because the lack of any multiplayer or Xbox Live support but it is definitely worth a rental.

Lego Star Wars 2! Hell Yeah!

I absolutely loved the original Lego Star Wars. It was simple and a ton of fun. The only thing that somewhat held it back for me was that it was just the prequel movies. Now the older Star Wars fans like myself will get to play the classic trilogy in Lego form. This is definitely one of my most anticipated games this year. I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

Black Demo(Holy Destructible Environments Batman!)

In the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine(March Issue #55) includes a playable demo of Black. The demo starts you off in a war torn city with a shotgun and a pistol. You start off in a small room and you need to blast a door down to proceed. The amount of stuff you can destroy is incredible. You can shoot out windows, blow up furniture, blow cars up, and so much more. The controls took a little getting used to after playing Halo 2 for so long but after a few minutes I got used to it. The right trigger fires your weapon and the left trigger throws grenades like in the Halo games. The analog sticks move your character and let you aim and also are used to crouch and zoom your weapons. You can also melee attack with a weapon. The button to reload is not the same as in Halo and it takes a little getting used to the new button assignment. The D-pad changes your weapons and the up arrow of the D-pad changes your firing mode. You get access to the AK-47 like weapon after you blow the door down. This weapon has three firing modes.(full auto, semi auto and single shot) The enemy AI is also quite good. The enemies will take cover often and will try to flush you out. You also have squad mates that will help you out. They are not in the demo that long though since the demo pretty much ends shortly after meeting up with them. Overall I am very excited about the release of Black later this month. I'll be playing more of the demo just to see what other stuff I can blow up.

World of Warcraft Can Be A Family Activity

I was playing some World of Warcraft on Saturday night and met a player and his mother in the game. They both play the game and their computers are right next to each other. I think this is pretty cool. It shows how a game can be enjoyed by both parents and their children.

Star Wars Empire At War Demo

The demo of Star Wars Empire At War has been released. You can download it here be warned though the demo is around 759 megabytes. So far I think the demo is pretty cool. You have the option to play a tutorial or jump right into a single player game. The ground combat plays a lot like a traditional RTS. The space combat is quite cool. I also really like the cinematic view that lets you view your battles in a cinematic fashion. So far I am enjoying it and am looking forward to playing the full game in February.

80's Cover Band At The Club

I just got back from seeing a local 80's cover band called Latex Limousine at a club in town. I've seen then once before last Halloween. They rock at covering some great songs from the 80's. On the web site the club encouraged everybody to dress in 80's style and if you did you got a cheaper cover charge. I dressed kind of in a Miami Vice style shirt, brown slacks, loafers, sunglasses, a blue plastic bracelet and even included a cheesy medallion on a chain. The show was great and the band let people from the audience sing on stage with them. They are a three piece band and one of the guitarists said he was losing his voice because he just got over a cold. I decided to be the first one to try to sing with then and sang Jesse's Girl. Finally singing that song many times on Karaoke Revolution Volume 2 actually paid off. Not really but it was a blast though. One guy in the audience then came up to me and said I had some "Huge f---ing balls." A few other people also got on stage after I got the ball rolling. I then sang one more song. I sang You've Got Another Thing Comin'. That was even more fun than Jesse's Girl. I learned how to sing that song from playing a lot of Grand Theft Auto Vice City and Guitar Hero. Star Wars Purge(Warning...Spoilers)

I just picked up the one-shot of Star Wars Purge from Dark Horse Comics. This comic basically consists of Darth Vader owning the hell out of a bunch of Jedi. The coolest part of this comic is when Vader gets his hand cut off while holding a normal looking sword. He then says he surrenders but some of the Jedi know it is a trick. Still one Jedi does not listen and jumps at Vader to kill him. Vader uses a Force Grab to pick up his severed hand with the sword still in it and then uses a Force Push to slam the hand with sword in its grasp into the attacking Jedi's chest. It looks awesome. World of Warcraft War Effort Quests

Recently war effort quests have been added to World of Warcraft. These quests are very cool. They are quests that require a player to bring various materials to NPCs. These materials are usually crafted or farmed from the game world. I think this is a cool idea because they have NPCs that will take the most basic form of a crafted material. For example if you just started skinning you can turn in light leather and if you are a medic you can turn in linen bandages. Higher level creations like silk bandages and heavy leather are also taken. When you complete a quest you get points that can be spent on your reputation to various groups. I also think this is a cool idea because nobody is left out. People new to crafting can participate and so can experienced crafters. I also feel it helps the community grow. You can meet a lot of new players if you want to buy materials or crafted goods for the war effort.

I saw The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe earlier tonight as I posted in a previous blog entry. I was reading the poster and it said the music was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams, the same person who has composed the music for the Metal Gear Solid games starting with Metal Gear Solid 2-Sons of Liberty. So I got the idea to take music from the Narnia soundtrack and replace the music in a trailer for Metal gear Solid 3-Snake Eater and see how it sounded playing as the music for the trailer. It turned out pretty well for just an experiment in my opinion. I used the opening track of the soundtrack which is entitled "The Blitz, 1940" and played it over the trailer. I just got back from seeing this at a small local theater. I was so busy with work and other things earlier this month that I didn't get to see it sooner. The theater that was showing it is right behind where I live in the basement of the local community college. This is not the most state of the art theater. No stadium seating, no THX or anything like that but it is perfectly serviceable, even to see a big budget movie like this. I sat in the very front row. Since there is no stadium seating these are the best seats in the theater. It makes it so you don't have to look at the back of anybody else's head. Seeing movies in a theater like this is like seeing them back in the good old days which is pretty cool in a way.

Anyway I really liked the movie. It was not overly long. Maybe just over two hours. The special effects were very good with all the talking animals and such. Some of the big action scenes were cool also like the frozen river melting away and the huge battle at the end of the movie. The music flows with the on screen action very well. This is definitely one to see. A great piece of cinema escapism.

Star Wars Galaxies Starter Kit

A few weeks ago on Attack of The Show they were interviewing Julio Torres about the new Star Wars Galaxies and were giving away copies of the starter kit to callers. I was a caller and stated how many players World of Warcraft has gotten in just about a year and how he plans to compete against World of Warcraft. Anyways I played the original game for a couple months in the summer of 2004 and got kind of bored with it. There was just so many different things to manage, house maintenance, harvesting power to use on your mineral harvesters, and so on. After that I went to World of Warcraft and haven't looked back. I probably won't play this new version of Star Wars Galaxies. Funny thing was while I was waiting for the show to call back I was leveling up Procrustes, my level 37 warlock. :)

Weird Crap At The Post Office...Literally

I was at work at the grocery store this morning and the grocery store manager was talking to the building manager and the building manager if he was the kicked in door at the post office(Both the grocery store and post office are in the same building complex) The building manager comes back a few minutes later and says apparently somebody kicked in the door during the night and then went inside and took a crap on the floor or the post office. I for some reason found this to be pretty funny. But the weirs thing is why kick in the door? The post office doors are open all the time. They close them in the winter to keep it warm inside but they are always unlocked. Maybe he was talking about the doors to the package claim area. Those are closed at 5PM during weekdays, 12 on Saturdays and are closed all day on Sundays. I don’t know which door was kicked in because I didn’t bother to look. Still I found the situation to be pretty weird and also a bit funny. Maybe whoever did it was really angry with the post office, or was drunk, or a little bit of both. Still it was really weird. I’ve never heard of anything like this happening before.

Video Game Sequels…Are We Setting Ourselves Up For Disappointment?

Many people get excited about sequels of any kind, whether it be movies, books, or video games to name a few. As with movie and book sequels video game sequels can be better or worse than the previous installment. So by getting so excited over video game sequels are we setting ourselves up for disappointment?

I say in some cases we may be setting ourselves up for disappointment especially on sequels to games that were already awesome and near perfect to begin with. How can some of these games be topped? Sometimes they can’t. With future installments of a game series many people expect improved gameplay and/or all the gameplay elements from the previous game to be worked into the sequel. Sometimes this can’t be done because of the story and setting of the next installment. For example in Metal Gear Solid 3-Snake Eater the game introduced hunting and healing into the gameplay mechanics. But since Metal Gear Solid 4-Guns of The Patriots takes place in various war zones and city type areas it may be difficult to implement the hunting aspect. Even Hideo Kojima said it would be hard to hunt when you are in the middle of a war zone with various factions fighting all around you. Also many story based sequels might not live up to the previous game because the designers wanted to take a different approach to the storytelling for the sequel. This happened in Metal Gear Solid 2-Sons of Liberty when the player controlled Raiden for most of the game. This was done so the player could view Snake as a different character and not be that character in the game. You get a different perspective on who Snake is when you play as Raiden. To many gamers this was a disappointment. Halo 2 was also a disappointment to some. I agree to an extent as far as the single player goes. The ending was a bit of a letdown to me. However the online play is what kept me interested. The same goes for Fable, not reall a sequel it was a disappointment to some nonetheless. Lionhead Studios said so much would be in this game that was probably not technologically possible on the Xbox. Many gamers got very excited over Fable and when it was released in the fall of 2004 many players found the game to be way too short and not all that Lionhead had said it would be.

I feel that when a sequel is announced many gamers, myself included tend to get too excited on how great the game will be and how much better it will be than the previous games and when the sequel does come out sometimes it is not all that the gamers had hoped for.

Maybe a way around being disappointed with game sequels is to not have expectations about how great the game will be. So maybe we should take marketing hype and other stuff intended to hype up an upcoming game with a grain of salt and not expect the near impossible with the release of a game. This way we may prevent so many of us from being disappointed when a game does not live up to the hype or our expectations.

My Next Best Shot At An Xbox 360

I'll be going to Denver tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to find a store with some 360's in stock. I don't really expect any to have any in stock though but I'll never know unless I check. I tried to get one at launch and couldn't get one. The local Target and Wal-Mart only got about 10 systems each. The Wal-Mart opened at midnight to sell systems but they put a sing-up sheet out at like 4 in the afternoon which I think was lame. They should have put the sheet up before they re-opened and not like 6 hours before. That way people could just sing up, go home, and come back and be guaranteed a system. I mean give everybody a fair shot. Anyway I'll be trying to get one tomorrow and with any luck(and I'm sure I'll need it) I'll be playing Perfect Dark Zero tomorrow night. :)

There is a much larger emphasis on platforming and puzzle solving than Warrior Within. It also features quick kills and the Dagger of Time returns.

One of the scariest games I've ever played but it is a very solid first person shooter with some great AI and Matrix-esque slow motion. It also included a great multiplayer element that even lets you use the slow-mo online.

For all those film buffs that have ever wanted to run their own film studio but don't have a spare billion dollars this one is for you.

Runner up-Playboy The Mansion(Seriously putting the magazine together was fun, but the rest sucked) :)

Resident Evil 4

RE4 looked great on the Gamecube and shows what level of graphics can be done still in the current generation and especially on the Cube.

Best Handheld Game:

Mario Kart DS

This year was a great year for handheld games. We got two great puzzle games in Lumines and Meteos. Quick play games in WarioWare Touched and Nintendogs. A console quality version of GTA in Liberty City Stories. Great racing games in the form of Burnout Legends but I have to go with Mario Kart DS. It is perfect for a handheld. You can play a race or two and then turn it off. Plus the internet play is awesome.

Runner up-Lumines

Best Puzzle Game:

Lumines

Simple to learn and tough to master, this is what makes a puzzle game great. Also the music is affected on how you are playing.

Runner up-Meteos

Best Strategy Game:

Age of Empires 3

The graphics look great and the new Home City feature adds some cool new gameplay elements into this strategy game.

Runner up-Metal Gear Acid

Best Party Game:

Guitar Hero

If you have two guitar controllers you can rock out with your friends in this awesome game. Even with one controller you can have a blast with your friends. Several classic songs will have you feeling like a rock star. Groupies not included. :)

Runner up-Karaoke Revolution Party

Best Platforming Game:

Sly 3-Honor Among Thieves

Excellent platforming with very cool characters and a nice cartoon looking graphical style. Also you can play some levels in 3D with the included 3D glasses if you want.

Runner up-Prince of Persia-The Two Thrones

Best Art Direction:

Shadow of The Colossus

The game is absolutely beautiful and plays just as well. Each Colossus is a masterpiece and the scenery is just as beautiful.

Psychonauts

A great game that got very good reviews but just did not sell very well. This is a shame because the game is awesome, contains Tim Schafer's brand of humor and plays a lot like a cross between a Tim Schafer adventure and a platformer.

Lumines

Great puzzler and everybody knows puzzle games and handheld systems go together like peas and carrots, or peanut butter and chocolate.

Runner up-Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories

Same reason it got best handheld game.

Runner up-Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow.

Best Playstation 2 Game:

God of War

One of the best looking PS2 games and it was a blast to play. Awesome boss battles as well.

Runner up-Guitar Hero

Best Xbox Game:

Forza Motorsport

It took many things from Gran Turismo and improved on them in great ways. Also included an insane amount of car customization, car damage and online play through Xbox Live.

Runner up-Half-Life 2

Best Gamecube Game:

Resident Evil 4

Changed everything about what an RE game is. It changed the camera system to make it easier to play, added some quick press buttons to dodge attacks or other dangers, and a new aiming system. Also the story is way different from the previous games.

Runner up-Mario Superstar Baseball

Best Multiplayer Game:

Battlefield 2

Great squad based first person shooter that focuses on team play. Also if you are not good with a gun you can still help out with various helper units such as the medic, support, or engineer. Also includes a commander mode that plays more like an RTS and lets you call in artillery strikes and supply drops.

Runner up-Burnout Revenge

Best Beat-Um-Up Game:

The Warriors

Simple yet effective fighting system. Tons of weapons to find and a lot of characters on screen at once makes for a hell of a beat-um-up.

Runner up-Mortal Kombat-Shaolin Monks

Best Fighting Game:

Soul Calibur 3

More characters, character creation mode, all the awesome fighting you'd expect from a Soul Calibur game and a ton of stuff to unlock make SC3 a keeper.

Runner up-Tekken 5

Best Stealth Action Game:

Splinter Cell-Chaos Theory

The major improvement to the third Splinter Cell is that you can now kill guards and not fail a mission. This opened up many new ways to play. You can still be all stealthy and play it like the older Splinter Cell games or you could go and kill off any guards that got in your way. Also the online mode was improved with an added co-op mode.

Runner up-Metal Gear Acid(More stealth strategy but still stealth nonetheless.)

Game of The Year:

Resident Evil 4

It changed what an RE game is and I think really took everybody by surprise. Great graphics, great gameplay, new camera and aiming system. Game of The Year in my opinion.

Runner up-God of War

Best Movie:

Batman Begins

What a Batman movie should be. Covers more of Bruce Wayne's back story that the others, has some great action scenes, great acting and overall a great story.

And now for my least favorite game of 2005...Killer 7. I just hated this game. The controls were lame, the linear hallways were lame, and the puzzles were lame as well. I really hated the way you moved your character in the game. You hold down the A button on the Gamecube controller to move forward and to turn around you hit the B button and then hit A again. Also the game was on rails the whole time and when I mean on rails I mean on freaking rails. You moved along the path the developers wanted you to and you can only move forward and backward, no side to side or anything like that.

Ultimate Wolverine VS Hulk #1

I just ordered this comic and hopefully it will be here in a couple days. I was reading about this comic and saw some really cool artwork and one page where Wolverine gets ripped in half by Hulk looked awesome. Also there is another page where Wolverine can't feel his legs(since they've been ripped off by Hulk) and seeing Wolverine with only half his body intact and is looking for his legs. I'm sure he is still alive after that because of his mutant healing powers. Anyway here are the pictures I am talking about:

Metal Gear Solid Sons of Liberty Comics

I just got these in the mail today. From left to right I have issue #0(Basically just character bios and some cool art), #1(Alex Garner Cover), #1(Ashley Wood Cover), and #1(Foil Sketch Cover).

I bought all the variations of issue #1. Anyway the comic is very good. The art and writing are both well done and I like how the comics cover stuff only mentioned to in the game. They did the same with the comics based on the first Metal Gear Solid game also.

These are some great comics. I liked in issue #1 how Snake has been framed and is said to be the leader of The Sons of Liberty and is responsible for the tanker incident and the Paris hotel bombing of George Sears. Knowing the story already makes the little details just so sweet. Since we all know George Sears is Solidus and he was basically removed from office by The Patriots and the bombing was obviously a cover up. I can't wait to read more of the Sons of Liberty comics. I think this series will be better than the first because of all the plot twists and that they can go into greater detail in the comic on stuff that was only mentioned in the games. The MGS comics are definitely worth look.

Xbox 360(Finally Got To Play One)

I was at my local Target store today seeing if they had any Xbox 360 systems. As I expected they didn't but they had a display model that I got to play. The controller feels great and I really like the shoulder buttons and the Xbox logo button. I played a little of Kameo and thought it was pretty cool. All they had on the system was demos but there was no demo of Perfect Dark Zero which is the only game I'm really interested in right now. Anyway the controller felt very comfortable and I'm glad I finally got to play with one.

Prince of Persia The Two Thrones

I am currently renting this game for the Xbox from Gamefly and so far I am very impressed. The graphics and sound are very well done and the gameplay is what you'd expect from the series. There are puzzles to solve and traps to avoid. One cool addition is the ability to do a quick kill. This is very much like a stealth kill. You have to be unseen to attempt one and when you start the quick kill you need to hit the X button when your weapon flashes blue. You only have a small amount of time to hit the button. if you are successful you can kill an enemy in one or two hits. If you fail you'll have to fight the enemy the old fashioned hack and slash way. The quick kill comes in handy when you are low on health and want to avoid letting your enemies get a hit in on you. Also the Dagger of Time is back in this game. Now you can rewind time again like you were able to do in The Sands of Time. I have not been able to play as the dark prince yet but I feel i am close to being able to play as him. Something else pretty interesting is the voice of the prince is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal who voiced him in the Sands of Time and the voice of the dark prince is done by Robin Atkin Downes who voiced the prince in Warrior Within. Just something a little interesting since the prince is a much darker character in Warrior Within than he was in The Sands of Time. Anyway I am very much enjoying The Two Thrones and it is definitely worth a rental.

My Big Fat Independent Movie

My Big Fat Independent Movie is a great spoof/parody movie of some of the most well known independent movies. The film spoofs independent films such as Pulp fiction and El Mariachi. The DVD is set to be released on January 24th but people have a chance to win one by signing up and spreading the word about the movie. The movie is very good and is quite funny. Also it makes it even funnier if you've seen the movies being spoofed. Be sure to check it out.

Aeon Flux

I decided to go and see the new Aeon Flux movie this weekend. It was not all that great but it wasn't terrible either. However the movie is very confusing. It looks like they tried to cram a lot of the content from the animated series into one movie and that makes it very confusing. Also in the animated show I though Brenga and Monica were separate cities divided by walls. In the movie there is only one city and the Monicans are just a group of people rebelling against the Goodchild regime. Also the whole plot element of finding a cure for some disease gets pretty confusing as well. Also there was not quite enough action in the movie. The shootout at the end of the movie is the biggest chunk of action in the movie and even then it was not that action packed. Overall the movie was very confusing but was still watch able. You may want to watch the animated series collection on DVD before seeing the movie. It may help with some of the plot elements and make the movie a little less confusing. Not necessarily something that has to be seen in the theater but will be worth at least a rental when it comes to DVD.

Well I've decided to try audiocasting again however my normal microphone is messing up right now so I am stuck using my Logitech Playstation 2 USB headset and it does not sound that great. Plus it sometimes likes to record in a weird way and puts in silence when I am actually speaking. Hopefully I'll get it worked out and get my regular microphone working again. Anyways onto the show.

I recently bought and downloaded the Special Forces expansion from EA. I installed it last night and fired it up. The game adds some new factions like the British SAS, Russian Spetsnaz, and a couple rebel/insurgent forces. There are also new weapons. Some of the SAS guns are pretty cool. Also the anti-tank weapon for the insurgent forces is more like a regular rocket launcher than the one that the US, Chinese, and Middle Eastern factions have. Night vision has also been included. The support units now also have a tear gas launcher. You can of course use a gas mask to prevent the gas from giving you the disorientation effects. Some of the coolest stuff are the grappling hooks and zip lines. If you want to climb a wall just toss a grappling hook over it. Or if you want to get from a higher location to a far away lower location quickly you can use a zip line. This makes getting from location to location a lot faster and safer than running through an open battlefield. There are new maps as well. My favorite map is called Warlord and it is a city like map that puts the SAS against the insurgents who have taken control of a palace area. You can also now drive ATVs. They are pretty fast and are a good addition to the game. This is highly recommended for Battlefield 2 fans.

Karaoke Revolution Party

I picked this game up today and so far I am having a blast with it. The game is improved upon and it shows. Now you can sing and dance if you have a DDR pad. You can also now create your own characters and it also supports the EyeToy to put your own face in the game. This feature was kind of hard to use since you have to set up the points on your face perfectly or the program will tell you to fix them. The graphics are also noticeably better in this version. This has been the first Karaoke Revolution game since last year and the extra development time shows in the overall game. The first three games came out within a year of each other and this version shows what the extra development time did. There are more songs in this version, more modes, character creation, tons of unlockables and the new Diamond record class. The previous games only had gold and platinum records. The Diamond record is received when you get a perfect score on a song which is about 50,000 points. This adds some replay value to the game by giving players incentive to score perfect on songs. The music selection is also quite good with songs from many decades. You get a lot of modern songs but you also get access to classics like "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" and "That's Amore." You also get songs like "Material Girl", "Play That Funky Music", "What I Like About You", and "Start Me Up" just to name a few. There are also a good amount of "party" modes you can play with your friends. If you've liked any of the other Karaoke Revolution games this one is another great addition to the series and is highly recommended.

Mouth To Eye Coordination

I wanted to see what it would be like to playa couple Nintendo DS games with the stylus in my mouth. It is quite difficult but maybe we'll see controllers that can be easily played with one's mouth in the future of gaming. Also playing with your mouth adds some challenge back into many DS games.

Halloween

This Halloween I went to a local club that had an 80's rock tribute band playing. It started at 10PM and finished at around 2AM. They played a ton of awesome rock and some pop rock songs from the 80's. They played You've Got Another Thing Comin' by Judas Priest, I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister, Jesse's Girl by Rick Springfield, Working For The Weekend by Loverboy, Sunglasses At Night by Corey Hart, Your Love by The Outfield, and Rock & Roll All night by Kiss to just name a few. They did very good covers of all the songs. I'll definitely check them out again since they are a local band. It was a fun time.

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories

I just got this game in the mail from Gamefly yesterday and so far I am pretty impressed. The game takes place in Liberty City in 1998. You play as Toni from GTA3 in this game. The graphics are very close to the Playstation 2 GTA games and look very good on the PSP. The gameplay is pretty much the same as the console versions as well. The o nly thing that took a little getting used to was driving around with the small PSP analog stick/nub. Any fans of the GTA games that own a PSP should check this one out.

Karaoke Revolution Party Demo

The demo of Karaoke Revolution Party is included on the demo disc in issue #99 of The Official US Playstation Magazine. The demo is awesome. You get two songs, Play That Funky Music and Crazy In Love and you also get to use the Sing and Dance mode. This lets you sing into a USB microphone and dance on a DDR pad. when playing in this mode you get to set the difficulty for singing and for dancing. This is nice if you are a good singer but a lousy dancer. You can set a high difficulty for the singing portion and an easy difficulty for the dancing. Also the graphics look a little sharper in this version. They had more time to work on this version since the last Karaoke Revolution game came out last November. They had put out three Karaoke Revolution games in the course of a year between 2003 and 2004. I'm sure the extra development time paid off to add some new features like the Sing and Dance mode. I am really looking forward to this. Looks like Harmonix has another hit on their hands. Also Guitar Hero comes out the same month as Karaoke Revolution Party. Music game fans should be very happy this holiday season. And here is a pic of me playing Karaoke Revolution Party with the Sing and Dance mode. You can't see the DDR pad but the bottom row on the screen is where the dance steps appear.

Serious Sam 2

I rented this one for the Xbox and it was very good. There is not a whole lot of depth to the Serious Sam games but that is what made them fun. The games just have you blasting enemy after enemy and to me that is what made first person shooters fun to begin with back in the days of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. Serious Sam 2 is a very fun game for people who don't want to think a lot in a first person shooter. It is all about the non-stop action. I played some online co-op on Xbox Live and it was very fun. This game is definitely worth a play.

Tina Wood Touched My Monkey!

A few weeks ago on Attack of The Show one of my chat room questions was answered. They were giving away Everquest 2-Desert of Flames stuff. This week has been pretty slow. There has been nothing really new. Hopefully soon I'll get my hands on Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Trauma Center for the DS. As soon as I get those I'll post my thoughts here.

Villains Revealed For Spider-Man 3

According to this article Kirsten Dunst confirmed that the villains for Spider-Man 3 will be The Sandman and Venom. Sandman is fine but I'm not really happy with the choice of Venom at this point. He is a pretty young character in the Spider-Man timeline and there are plenty of other classic villains they could use such as The Lizard, Electro, and Mysterio to name a few, Also The Lizard would be a perfect choice since Curt Connors played a role in Spider-Man 2.

I picked up this album the day it came out. I have all of their other albums and this one is great. This album rocks very hard and I highly recommend it for fans of rock music. Their music goes great when I play Halo 2 on Xbox Live.

Star Wars Battlefront 2, LA Rush, And Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects Demo Thoughts

All these demos were played on the Xbox.

Star Wars Battlefront 2:

This demo plays pretty much exactly like the previous version which is a good thing. I really enjoyed the first Battlefront game. The demo has two levels one on foot level and one space level. The space combat plays very well and is improved upon greatly in my opinion. I'll be looking forward to this one and I'm sure it will be pretty fun online.

LA Rush:

I though this was going to be like the San Francisco Rush games...boy was I wrong. The demo plays almost nothing like the classic arcace racers. It feels much more like Burnout and Midnight Club more than a Rush game. You have a city to race in and arrows pop up to tell you where to go. You also have a free roam mode where you can just drive around. Also when you crash it slows down and looks very much like the crash aftertouch in Burnout 3. Overall I am disapointed with the demo.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects:

This is a fighter based in the Marvel universe. The demo delt very restrictive as far as the fighting system goes. There were not that nany moves I could pull off and I ounly found the basic attack to be worth using. You can play as either Spiderman or Johnny Ohm in the demo. I only played as Spiderman. The interactivity with the enviroment was pretty fun. You can pick up objects and toss them at your opponent and you can smash them into objects and walls. You can with by either berating your opoeent until their health meter is empty or you can also win by a ring out. The graphics looked pretty good close up. The graphics of course get less detailed the further away from your opponent you are. I give this one a try when it comes out and I can play as the other characters. Also this game had one of the cheesiest lines I've ever heard in a video game. After winning with Spiderman he said "That's what we call a web slinging ass kicking." I know Spiderman is known for some cheesy lines but this one takes the cake in my opinion.

My name was mentioned again on Attack of The Show on Thursday's(9-15-05) episode. I asked what game the hosts felt had the most cliché character. Laura answered and said San Andreas and gave a couple examples. Tina agreed with her and said it was pretty stereotypical.

Nintendo Revolution Controller Finally Revealed

The controller for the Nintendo Revolution has finally been revealed. I think it looks pretty sleek. I just wonder how it will actually work. Several images of the controller show a remote controller like device plugged into it. It looks like it will have interchangeable parts so you can attach other controller devices. We’ll just have to wait and see when the Revolution is released.

Final Fantasy 7-Advent Children...Tifa's Hard Nipples

As many of you already know Final Fantasy 7-Advent Children has been leaked onto the internet. I couldn't resist and downloaded the movie. It is in Japanese and there are English subtitles you can get for it. The movie is awesome. Even though I've already seen it I definitely will still be getting the DVD release in November.

Anyway I noticed in one part of the movie in the church Tifa has really hard nipples. Must be pretty cold in that church. :)

I am on a waiting list for this figure though. i really hope I can get one. I love the movie and the figure both looks badass and has 12 lines of dialogue from the movie. The list of lines on the website did not say it had the line "Say hello to my little friend." Which is kind of disappointing since it is probably the most well known line from the movie. Oh well I�??ve heard that line enough anyway and the ones included are pretty good.

Anyway I really, really want to get one. I'll put it on display somewhere in my apartment.
