Shadow of The Colossus And Burnout Revenge Demos

In the latest issue of the Official US Playstation Magazine(October 2005) there are demos of both Shadow of The Colossus and Burnout Revenge. Here are my thoughts on both.

Shadow of The Colossus: The graphics looked really nice and the game played very well. Reflecting the sun light to find out where to go and where the weakness of the Colossus is a cool gameplay element. I also liked the epic feel when climbing the Colossus. The things are so huge it is almost scary. You play a this one character and you are basically a speck compared to the Colossus. It just makes you feel so small when you are climbing up the Colossus. Overall the demo has left me wanting more and I am looking forward to the final version.

Burnout Revenge: I loved Burnout 3-Takedown and the demo of Burnout Revenge has me very excited. Being to now hit cars without crashing is very cool. Also I loved the crash breakers you can now use in race mode. This adds a big twist to the gameplay and a cool way to take out your opponents. Also the sense of speed is just as good as it was in Burnout 3. This is one of the games I've been looking forward to all year. I'll probably get the Xbox version since burnout 3 was so fun on Xbox Live.

1998 Was Indeed The Greatest Year In Gaming

I'd been reflecting back to 1998 ever since the 1998 episode of Cinematech was announced. I got to thinking about all the great games that came out that year and agree that 1998 was the greatest gaming year ever. Lets take a look at some great titles from 1998:

The Legend of Zelda-The Ocarina of Time - The best Zelda yet in my opinion and it was the first game I actually said looked beautiful.

Metal Gear Solid - The second game I said was beautiful(I played it after Zelda) The game that pretty much brought the stealth genre into 3D and is pretty much what most other 3D stealth games since have been based on.

Half-Life - The first person shooter that really got me back into the genre. For a long time most FPS games were basically the same, kill stuff, get a key, open door, repeat. Half-Life included various puzzles and a great story to make one of the greatest games of all time. The only other single-player FPS I've liked more is Half-Life 2.

Unreal - A good FPS that started the Unreal franchise.

Starcraft - The best real time strategy game ever in my opinion. I enjoyed many hours opf single-player and multiplayer on this game.

Grim Fandango - A great adventure game by Tim Schafer and Lucasarts which brough the point and click adventure into 3D for the first time with Lucasarts. Great film noir like story.

Pokemon - I enjoyed Pokemon, not everybody did but the first two games(Red and Blue) moved a lot of Gameboy units. It can be seen as to the Gameboy what Nintendogs is to the DS in Japan.

Takken 3 - The last really good Tekken game in my opinion. 4 was not that great, 5 was pretty good but 3 is my favorite.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron - One of my favorite Star Wars games. You get to fly tons of ships from the Star Wars universe and it also included some cool battles from the classic trilogy like the Death Star attack run, and the Battle of Hoth. it was also one of the first games to use the N64 expansion pack.

Devil Dice - A great puzzler for the Playstation and very addicting.

These are just some of the games that made 1998 so great. 1998 was also mostly a software year. Companies relied more on great titles rather than flashy technology. This of course is just my opinion.

Learn With IceWarm - The Sega Dreamcast And You

Please don't take the opening song seriously. I was not being serious when I made it.

Also you may want to turn your speakers up since the audio is kind of quiet. The video was made with Windows Movie Maker after all. :)

Oldest Trick In The Book

I went out to eat tonight. I went to a local pizza/pasta restaurant and I was putting some crushed red pepper onto my pizza and the lid on the shaker fell off and covered my entire slice of pizza with crushed red pepper. I still ate the piece after shaking off the mound of crushed red pepper. I don't know who unscrewed the lid to the shaker but that is one of the oldest tricks in the book.

Aeon Flux Trailer

Well the trailer for Aeon Flux has been put on the internet and I have to say it looks a little disappointing right now. From what I saw it does not look much like the animated series I loved watching on MTV. They also changed the costume of Aeon Flux. I remember reading something about this and the costume was changed by Charlize Theron when she saw the costume and thought it was too revealing. Here is the article on the costume change. Anyway I hope this movie does not suck because Aeon Flux was a very cool animated series. I also remember when it was on Liquid Television on MTV before it became a animated series in around 1995.

The Legend of Zelda-Twilight Princess Delayed

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess has been delayed until 2006. Sometime in April 2006 is now the projected release date.

Anyway that really sucks. Twilight Princess was one of the only games I am really looking forward to this year with the exception of Metal Gear Solid 3-Subsistence. Oh well, I'd rather have a game be delayed than having it be rushed and being crap. I'm all for delays when it means that game will just be that much better when it finally comes out.

DVD Player Problems

I have an Apex AD-1110WM DVD player and whenever I put in a DVD movie it says "Loading" on the screen for a long time and after a while it will say "Unknown Disc." What the hell is going on? Does anybody know how to fix this? I've tried a lens cleaner and it seemed to have no effect.

I Actually Watched Some WWE Last Night

I was going through the channels on my VCR last night to get to the AU channel which I use to play video games on. Anyway I came across a WWE wrap up show and I actually watched it. I haven’t watched anything WWE related since April. It was kind of interesting just to see what has been going on in the WWE, not enough to keep me watching though.

Bungie Should Ban Mass Suiciders In Halo 2

I hate playing a team game in Halo 2 where somebody on my team just kills themselves over and over. These people should be banned from Xbox Live in my opinion. Many of them have multiple accounts. They use one account to help boost their friends' accounts by playing on the other team and killing themselves over and over so the other team their friend is playing on wins and boosts their rank. I was playing last night where one person was doing this and he said something about not caring about the account he was playing on. I then asked if he did not care about that account how come he just does not cancel it. He said he was doing it to boost his other account. Now people like that should be banned from Xbox Live without question. They screw up the scoring for the team they play on and they just ruin the game for the people who play it fair.

My Name Was Mentioned On G4TV.com The Show Again(Twice)

On the most recent episode of G4TV.com The Show my name was mentioned twice. The first one was said by Laura Foy when they were talking about the fan created G-Phoria categories. My category was "Games That Make You Look Foolish." I was also featured on the message board ticker when they were talking about Harvest Moon-Another Wonderful Life.

I love playing World of Warcraft. it is an excellent MMORPG and now there is a free 14 day trial of it on the disc included in the latest issue of PC Gamer. So for all of you who have not tried this game here is your chance. If you didn't want to pay $50 just to see what the game was like here is a chance to play it free for 14 days, well not entirety free since you need to buy the magazine but this is a perfect opportunity to see if World of Warcraft is for you. You also may be able to download the trial somewhere but I haven’t looked.
